Cave Story’s Secret Santa: A Free Christmas Game

Are you looking for a game that lives up to Christmas the way Spooky Station and Pumpkin Jack live up to Halloween? This game was like an actual gift under an actual tree when I saw it free on Steam. I don't know a darn thing about Cave Story or its balrog, but here's the deal. In Cave Story's Secret Santa You are a pixel art Santa, the presents have been stolen, drop-in through chimney's in a diverse world to replace the presents. There's a catch though, booby traps and sentries line children's houses, which you must stealthily avoid or…

    GeoGuessr: Strap In Passepartout

GeoGuessr... Ahh, I've waited so long to delve into this one. I present to you today a non-traditional game review to showcase a game that is on the fringe of traditional games but so fresh and fun that everybody is finding out about it. GeoGuessr is a browser-based game that uses images from Google Streetview. You are dropped off in a random lat/long on Earth or whichever area/theme you specify and you use clues from your surroundings to find out where you are. Any person could easily bend the rules to win. For purists, on the other hand, it's a…

    Clocker: Chinese Indie Game: Review

    clocker chinese indie game

I just saw Clocker released on Nintendo eShop this morning for a reasonable $3, so I snatched it up and gave it a go. These Switch games are kind of hard to predict sometime, but you have to pay your portion for the privilege once in a while. I do not really know what the origins of this game are. It was listed under Indie in eshop, with no publisher info. A little research revealed that the developer Wild Kid Games, published this through a studio called Indienova in China. Are there indie studios in China? I have wondered this…

City of Heroes: It Was The Best Game

remembering discontinued city of heroes mmorpg game

Well, quick FYI, City of Heroes hasn’t had a live official server in years. There was never anything wrong with it. I’m not really sure why they even shut it down, many people today still would like to play it. But I guess they just felt it was dated or didn’t make money, or they just didn’t want to produce content for it anymore. I don’t know, but I would love to step foot in Paragon City once again. What was it? City of Heroes was an MMO that simulated player life as a superhero that you could play with…

    Metaverse Keeper: Keeping it Real

metaverse game procedurally generated hack and slash rogue lite

It occurred to me today, as it does every day here in the Pizza Command Center, that I don’t quite know what my ethos is. And then it occurred to me during my game session with Metaverse Keeper that while most of my reviews are very clean, combined with my own yearn, my own challenge to write about these games and why I’m playing aren’t necessarily clear. So, to clear this up, this game is E for Everyone, which is generally my target for content. It is also mildly hack and slash. If that’s not your thing, I understand; after…

    Nordlicht: A Pleasant Northern Title

nordlich puzzle solving scandinavian game hidden object

Nordlicht is a family friendly story book stylized find-the-object game with casual references to Nordict life and the lore/mythology of the viking culture in an anachronistic presentation. You investigate diverse levels with hidden objects and puzzles to solve to complete steps in an adventure story. I think this game would be fun in a family setting, but I found it intriguing enough to investigate as an adult.

Burnstar: Itโ€™s Like a Sauna in Here

burnstar cheap switch co-op game review title screen

I got Burnstar for under $2 on eShop and itโ€™s also on Steam for around $5. Thatโ€™s not bad really. And this game is actually good fun. It is cheaper than a burrito from Chipotle too. This is one of those games that doesnโ€™t have a sweeping lore setup for burning a bunch of junk. Itโ€™s just cool looking, fun, and the sound design is funkalicious. You can play this game either as a single-player or co-op. I think co-op would probably be easier, but I did alright on single-player. This game is $2 you have nothing to lose really.

The Big Journey: Roll a Dumpling Eating Cat!

big journey cat indie game cute funny

Hey, when you say โ€œroll around a dumpling-eating cat,โ€ do you mean that literally? You do? Really? Okay, Iโ€™m in. Play The Big Journey and roll around a cat, who should be named Alpuss Dumplingdore (do not deny what a perfect name that would be.) Alright, alright. Thereโ€™s nothing that bizarre about this game. Firstly, The Big Journey is unique, however, once you jump in, itโ€™s pretty fleshed out. Secondly, despite the weird concept, itโ€™s highly rewarding. Finally, I think weโ€™re all a little bit used to those by now, us gamers, arenโ€™t we? So, next up, letโ€™s play!

Pinball Games: Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding!

    pinball deluxe space frontier

Remember pinball? Not only remember it but are a “pinball wizard” as it were? Well, here we go again. Today I’m going to share a game that is available on both the Mobile and PC platforms. The game is Pinball Deluxe: Reloaded. There is also apparently some background with Blackberry devices long before that for this publisher, but I don’t know much about that. Before this post, I tried to load up an Android emulator to see if I could try the Google Play version on my Windows machine, but it didn’t really work and it was easier to just…
